Complete Guide to Battlefield 6 Beta Classes & Skills

Select Language:

The multiplayer beta for Battlefield 6 features four main classes: Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon. Each one has its own unique abilities, gadgets, traits, and weapons tailored to specific roles during team combat. While it’s tough to crown one as the best overall, each class serves a purpose depending on the situation or strategy. For example, Engineers excel at destroying enemy vehicles, Recon agents are skilled at long-range sniping and enemy marking, Support characters focus on healing and providing cover, and Assault soldiers push through the front lines with fast-paced gunfire and close combat tactics.

After playing extensively at the LA preview event, I can guide you through what each class offers, which might suit your play style, and how they come together in gameplay. Knowing these roles will help when jumping into the early beta sessions.

Every Battlefield 6 class explained:

There are four main roles in Battlefield 6 multiplayer, each supporting the team in a specific way, marked by a signature gadget, trait, and weapon type that are fixed, though some other features can be customized.

  • Assault: The frontline fighter that leverages close- and mid-range weapons to take out enemies swiftly. This class moves fast, survives well in direct firefights and is ideal for aggressive play.
  • Engineer: The specialist for vehicles and explosives. Capable of repairing or destroying hardware according to their team’s needs, wielding an SMG for close encounters.
  • Support: Acts as a medic and team protector, providing healing, Ammo, deployable cover, and suppressive fire. They’re vital for keeping teammates alive.
  • Recon: A stealthy sniper and scout who can mark enemies, lay traps like C4, and land impossible long-distance shots that enemies can’t survive.

What is the best class in Battlefield 6?

The Assault class is probably the simplest for new players to grasp, making it a good starting point. However, the best class depends on how you like to play or what your team needs. Heavy vehicle gameplay favors Engineers, while large maps can make Recon more effective—especially when equipped with Sniper Training.

How to switch classes in Battlefield 6:

At the start of a game, you can pick any of the four classes, and you’re allowed to switch to a different one after dying or immediately upon respawning. Just press the on-screen prompt (Y if you’re on PC), which will let you select a new class for the upcoming round. You can also modify your loadout at that time. It’s best to make these changes between rounds rather than during intense firefights so you stay in the action.

Do classes have open or closed weapons?

Unless you’re playing specific modes that say otherwise, all classes can use most weapons you equip via loadouts—meaning open weapon access. Each class does have a signature weapon with unique functions. For example, Recon snipers can hold their breath to stabilize shots, emphasizing their long-range precision.

Class training and specializations:

Each class can be customized with two different training options, which unlock specialized Field Skills that boost their effectiveness. These help you tailor your role for specific tasks, like increased healing or damage resistance.

Battlefield 6 Assault Class:

This class is the generalist frontline fighter, typically armed with an assault rifle, a shotgun, and a small grenade launcher. They’re quick movers, designed to break into enemy defenses and survive incoming fire.

  • Playstyle: Run-and-gun; attacking the enemy front lines.
  • Signature Weapon: Faster weapon draw and switch times, with better sprint recovery.
  • Signature Gadget: Adrenaline Injector, which instantly restores health and grants temporary buffs like faster speed and resistance.
  • Signature Trait: Soft Landing, reducing fall damage and avoiding speed penalties after dropping from heights.
  • Active Ability: Reveals enemies nearby; killing enemies extends this scanning effect.
  • Training options: Grenadier (more grenades, faster reloads, resist flashbangs) or Frontliner (better health regen, extra Adrenaline Injection uses, less firing penalty while moving).

Engineer Class:

Specialized in vehicle destruction and repairs, they can fix their team’s vehicles using a repair torch and also use explosives and rockets to take out enemy hardware.

  • Playstyle: Demolitions and vehicle mastery.
  • Signature Weapon: SMG with improved hip-fire accuracy.
  • Signature Gadget: Repair Tool, a blowtorch that can repair friendly vehicles and damage enemy equipment—usable endlessly but can overheat if overused.
  • Signature Trait: Flak Jacket, providing damage reduction from explosives.
  • Active Ability: Overloaded Repair Tool, enabling faster vehicle repairs.
  • Training options: Anti-Armor (more missile ammo, faster reloading, special rockets that weaken repairs on hit vehicles) or Combat Engineer (automatic mine detection and ability to repair vehicles faster).

Support Class:

Focused on aiding teammates with healing and suppressive fire, supports deploy ammo and health supplies, revive allies swiftly, and can lay down smoke or suppressive fire with an LMG.

  • Playstyle: Defensive and team-support role.
  • Signature Weapon: LMG that allows firing without speed penalties.
  • Signature Gadget: Supply Bag, which resupplies ammo and boosts health recovery.
  • Signature Trait: Quick Revive, for faster teammate revivals.
  • Active Ability: Increase the area of effect for supplies and revive speed temporarily.
  • Training options: Combat Medic (acts as a mobile health station) or Fire Support (better mounted weapon control and more ammo support).

Recon Class:

A stealthy marksman and infiltrator, recon players mark enemies for their team, sniping from concealed positions or sneaking up to place C4 and other traps.

  • Playstyle: Stealth, long-range precision, and enemy disruption.
  • Signature Weapon: Sniper rifles with the ability to hold breath for steady shots.
  • Signature Gadget: Motion Sensor, which displays moving enemies on the mini-map.
  • Signature Trait: Auto-Spot, which automatically marks visible enemies while aiming.
  • Active Ability: Call in a UAV to reveal enemies in a zone temporarily.
  • Training options: Sniper (faster auto-spot and kill confirmation with headshots) or Pathfinder (becoming less detectable to sensors and enemies, highlighting damage).
