The cursed Captain Harlin appears on the first island you visit on your ship during Act 4 in Path of Exile 2, at Kedge Bay. He is a half-man, half-squid creature that uses water-based attacks, large-area effects with massive cannons, and summons smaller enemies that you need to defeat.
He’s not as tough as some of the difficult bosses at the end of Act 3, but it’s important to know his attack patterns, where to find him, and what loot you might get after defeating him.
Captain Hartlin Location
Captain Hartlin can be found in Journey’s End, the zone beyond Kedge Bay. You reach this area by jumping on the ship and selecting a location on your map. Since Path of Exile 2 maps are randomly generated, explore thoroughly until you find his boss arena.
Overview of Captain Hartlin
Hartlin is resistant to Cold and Physical damage and deals a mix of Fire, Physical, and Cold damage.
Boss Fight Guide
Hartlin has several attacks to learn, but none are instant kills, so you should be able to figure out his patterns quickly.
-
Wave Attack
Hartlin periodically releases waves that slow you down and cause damage. These waves move slowly and are easy to dodge. -
Minion Spawning
He spawns drowned sailors as minions. Use your area damage abilities to clear these out quickly since they will keep appearing throughout the fight. -
Cannon Circle
When Hartlin’s health drops to about one-third, he spawns a large circle of cannons. The cannons fire in sequence, and you must dodge their shots to avoid heavy damage. -
Anchor Drop
Hartlin drops a giant anchor from above, marked by a large circle on the ground. Dodge the falling anchor to avoid significant damage. -
Eel Attack
Hartlin stands still while casting what resemble eels, which attack in rapid succession. These are easy to dodge but deal a lot of damage if they hit. Since he’s stationary during this, it’s an opportunity to get close and strike him.
Loot from Captain Hartlin
Hartlin drops various items, but he does not have any fixed drops other than a Verisium quest item. You can return this item to Lord Dannig in Kingsmarch to receive a reward.
