Initially, Berach believed he was under a curse, trapped beneath a bridge. Now, in the world of Tainted Grail: The Fall Of Avalon, he finds himself stuck in a cell after being arrested for causing a ruckus.
Berach is convinced there’s a creature flying around, and although you’ve noticed it on your way to Cuanacht, the locals aren’t buying it. With the Red Plague and the Wyrdness wreaking havoc, they don’t have the bandwidth for his tales. You might have some time to spare, though, and the poor guy could really use your help.
How to Help Free Berach
To kick off “Stuck in the Cycle,” you’ll need to locate Cuanacht’s Prison, which sits in a large building at the lower-left corner of the city, just a little past the main staircase.
Head inside, go past the guard, and you’ll find Berach, the same knight you may have assisted during “Age of Excuses,” locked in the first cell on the right. Chat with him to understand why he’s jailed, and you can offer your help to set him free.
Next, return to the guard, Flann, and strike up a conversation to start another side quest named “Bribe It On”, which is essential for freeing Berach. Flann will give you two main bribing options for letting Berach go early, plus a hidden third option that depends on whether you have a specific quest.
- If you’re willing to shell out a hefty sum, you can pay Flann 5,000 Gold to release Berach right away.
-
Alternatively, you can accept Flann’s request for a good meal and a drink. He’ll specifically ask for a Kamelot Delicacy, for which he’ll give you the recipe.
- To make a Kamelot Delicacy, you need one Venison, one Potato, and one Honey. You can find these by looting crates, barrels, and sacks, buying them from shops like Horns of the South Keep, or hunting deer for Venison.
- Ale can be acquired in similar ways or purchased from Alwyn’s shop, located across from the shut inn in Cuanacht.
- If you’ve completed the “Spread Your Wings” side quest and aligned with Vidar, you’ll unlock the “A Crow Left of Murder” quest series. The first quest has you eliminate someone in Horns of the South, and the second quest forces you to deal with Flann. If you choose the appropriate dialogue option during your talk with him, you can take him out without bribing and then unlock Berach’s cell by lockpicking the door.
Opting to either give Flann a meal or eliminate him during “A Crow Left of Murder” makes it much easier, and regardless of how you chose to proceed, you’ll ultimately receive the key to Berach’s cell.
If you decide to confront Flann, he’s a standard enemy on par with a Disgraced Knight or Kamelot Deserter, and if you didn’t bribe him, he’ll drop his armor, a sword, and a key upon defeat.
Once you’ve freed Berach, he’ll mention that he’s on his way to the Forlorn Swords to hunt the creature you both spotted, completing the quest and rewarding you with approximately 1,500 EXP.
