In Mass Effect 3, earning the best ending used to involve multiplayer and other unusual steps. Now, in Mass Effect Legendary Edition, the process is much simpler. The collection includes an update called the Extended Cut, which makes it easier to reach the optimal ending without relying on multiplayer. All three games are bundled together, and the final game has been adjusted to help players achieve the best outcome more easily.
Similar to ensuring everyone survives in Mass Effect 2’s Suicide Mission, the ideal ending in Mass Effect 3 means Commander Shepard, all crew members aboard the Normandy, and people on Earth stay alive. Achieving this requires making tough choices and sacrifices throughout the game. Additionally, it’s important to gather as many War Assets as possible to unlock the best ending.
### How the Best Ending Changed
Without multiplayer, there’s more focus on in-game actions. The perfect ending depends heavily on your total military strength, which was previously tied to the Galactic Readiness system in the original version. That system required high scores achieved through multiplayer and associated apps.
In the Legendary Edition, earning War Assets and military strength has been simplified so players can gain them through story-based actions and side quests, without needing multiplayer. The goal remains to collect as many War Assets as possible from side missions and events during the trilogy. You can keep track of your War Assets at the War Table on the Normandy between missions.
Making sure to complete side quests, help allies, and make kind decisions increases your War Assets total. These choices can influence your overall military strength and improve your chances of getting the best ending.
### What You Need for the Best Ending
To unlock the top ending, you must collect at least 7,800 Military Strength. This total is based on your choices across all three games, from the first Mass Effect up to Mass Effect 3. Both renegade and paragon decisions influence your total, so making good choices throughout helps.
Here are some tips to maximize War Assets:
– Finish as many side missions as you can in each game.
– Save lives whenever possible.
– Spare innocent people during missions.
– Scan many planets for resources.
– Complete mineral and resource quests.
– Help allies and make kind decisions, like sparing colonists or avoiding aggressive actions.
Some War Assets are gained by helping allies or making compassionate choices. For instance, sparing certain colonies or not attacking characters can add to your strength. Conversely, making aggressive choices may cause you to lose some assets.
### Steps to Reach the Perfect Ending
Once you have accumulated at least 7,800 Military Strength and completed all main missions and DLC, you’re ready for the final steps. The last mission is called “Priority: Cerberus Headquarters,” leading up to the last chapter, “Priority: Earth.” To get the best ending, choose to destroy the Catalyst by activating the Crucible.
In Mass Effect Legendary Edition, more Military Strength and War Assets are awarded for completing content, meaning you might not need to replay earlier games to gather enough resources. You can achieve the necessary strength in Mass Effect 3 alone.
If you follow these steps, Earth and the Normandy crew will survive the final blast. The ending shows Shepard’s love interest refusing to put Shepard’s name on the Normandy’s memorial. The closing scenes depict Shepard amid the debris, taking a breath after the destruction.
Even if you start a new character in Mass Effect 3, it’s still possible to collect enough War Assets to unlock the best ending. Just be careful with your choices along the way, as losing too many assets may prevent you from achieving the perfect conclusion.
