In The Sims, the process of having a baby isn’t as straightforward as it is in later versions of the game. There’s no “woohoo” option, although the vibrating bed is a close substitute, and you won’t find a “try for a baby” feature. Instead, you need a solid relationship and a bit of luck on your side.
Let’s explore how to add a little one to your household in The Sims 1. Keep in mind, taking care of a baby can be quite challenging, so think carefully before proceeding.
Pre-Made Babies
In The Sims 1, there are no pre-made babies, and you cannot create babies in Create a Sim. The only Sims that can be created are adults and children.
Pregnancies are also absent from this version, meaning there’s no waiting period for your new arrival. Instead, babies materialize in a lovely shower of petals when your Sims opt to have or adopt a baby from a pop-up menu.
How To Have A Baby

To initiate the process of having a baby, you’ll need a male and female couple. Build their relationship through social interactions to strengthen their bond.
How To Level A Romantic Relationship
First, establish a friendship by talking and entertaining each other. When their friendship reaches around 40-50, you can transition to romantic actions like hugging, kissing, and flirting.
Icons on the relationship bar indicate the status: a smiley face represents friendship, a pink heart signifies early romance, and a red heart displays a deeper romantic relationship.
How To Trigger The Option To Have A Baby
Once your relationship status shows a red heart, engage in romantic interactions to trigger the pop-up dialogue.
The easiest method is to kiss romantically or passionately multiple times. Eventually, a prompt will appear asking, ‘Should we have a baby?’ Note that there’s an element of chance involved. A stronger bond and happier Sims increase the likelihood of getting this dialogue.
If you have the Vibromatic Heart Bed, you can select ‘vibrate’ and have both Sims choose ‘play in bed.’ This is the game’s version of woohoo and can also initiate the baby dialogue.
If you decline, nothing changes. However, if you agree, a baby appears in a crib amidst a shower of petals wherever your Sims are. You can move the crib in buy mode, but only when the baby is asleep and not being held.
Can Same-Sex Couples Have A Baby?

Yes! You can create a romantic relationship between same-sex couples in the same manner as above. Once their relationship is at its peak, simply continue performing romantic actions.
In same-sex relationships, a phone call will occur instead. When you answer, you’ll be prompted with, ‘Do you want to adopt a baby?’
The adoption agency typically calls around 4 PM, but it can occur at any time.
How To Name Your Baby

After agreeing to have or adopt a baby, petals will fall, revealing a crib, followed by a dialogue box.
The pop-up will inform you of the baby’s gender and allow you to enter your desired name. Once you’re finished, select ‘OK’ to officially name your baby.
In The Sims, babies are treated as objects in the game’s code. Therefore, if you evict a family with a baby, the baby will not move with them. A Sim is only recognized as part of a household when they grow into a child.
Your baby will remain a baby for 72 in-game hours before transitioning into a child. You must consistently feed and interact with them or else Social Services might step in to take them away.
