Alvaro Lario, the President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), emphasizes the urgent need to address the global issues at hand. He notes, “Current global instability signs, such as forced migration, increasing food prices, and accelerated climate change, pose serious threats to our stability and food security.”
He calls on world leaders gathered in Davos to prioritize investments in rural regions to generate employment opportunities for young people, stabilize food supplies, and support small-scale farmers in adapting to climate challenges.
Lario insists, “We need to harness the tools of the digital age to ensure that emerging technologies benefit everyone, especially marginalized communities. If we fall behind, we risk worsening global development challenges, which could lead to increased hunger and conflict.”
