Digital Phablet – The popular streaming platform Netflix has recently announced that it is working on a live-action adaptation of Atlus’ Persona video game series, prompting a mix of reactions from fans on social media, according to Variety.
Christopher Monfette, known for his work on hit shows such as Star Trek: Picard and 12 Monkeys, will serve as the executive producer and showrunner for the live-action series, working alongside SEGA’s Toru Nakahara. Additionally, the American production company 21 Labs will oversee the project as it develops.
Many fans expressed their dissatisfaction upon hearing the news, with some arguing that the Persona games don’t need a live-action adaptation because they are already rich in storytelling, featuring deep characters and animated cinematic sequences. Others highlighted that the franchise has already produced several anime series, dismissing the idea of a live-action version as unnecessary.
### Reactions to Netflix’s Persona Live-Action Series
A fan took to X (formerly Twitter), commenting, “This is honestly the worst news possible.”
Another speculated, “Live-action Persona? With the guy from Picard in charge? This could either turn out to be an incredible piece of psychological horror or the most cursed adaptation since the Last Airbender movie. There’s no middle ground.”
One more remarked, “Lmao, Netflix is just going to turn Persona into another watered-down flop. Watch Joker get recast as some random guy from Iowa.”
Persona has established itself as one of the top JRPGs in recent memory, thanks to its innovative turn-based gameplay, stunning art style, and vibrant visuals. The franchise’s future was further highlighted with the announcement of Persona 6, alongside a remake of Persona 4, made during the latest Xbox Game Show.
