Minecraft Players Can Now Get a Scholarship—But There's an Exception

Digital Phablet – The University of Silicon Valley recently gained attention after reports emerged that the institution is offering a $15,000 scholarship for Minecraft players who complete all 115 in-game achievements.

According to the university’s official website, “All achievements must be verifiable through official public profiles, APIs, or clear screenshots from the applicant’s account. Screenshots must include character name, account ID, and visible completion indicators. If an API or public verification tool is unavailable, the university may request video evidence or live screen verification.”

The university emphasizes that “Achievements earned through modded, private, or emulated servers are not eligible.”

Minecraft isn’t the only game eligible for scholarship consideration; titles like the Dark Souls Trilogy and Elden Ring are included, alongside survival games like Terraria and No Man’s Sky, roguelikes and roguelites such as Dead Cells and Hades, and larger MMOs like World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy XIV.

It’s also worth noting that the achievements and games are categorized into two tiers: “Legendary Tier” and “Mastery Tier.”

For example, the university also offers scholarships for players who excel in certain achievements on PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, and the Nintendo Switch:

Legendary Tier:

  • PlayStation: More than 10 Platinum Trophies (including at least 3 ultra-rare, with less than 1%)
  • Xbox: Over 100,000 Gamerscore with 10 titles at 90% or higher completion
  • Steam: Five perfect games with 100% achievements and an average global achievement rate below 5%

Mastery Tier:

  • PlayStation: At least 5 Platinum Trophies
  • Xbox: Over 50,000 Gamerscore with 5 titles at 80% or higher completion
  • Steam: Three perfect games with 100% achievement completion
  • Nintendo Switch: Full completion of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom — including 100% map and shrine completion

This initiative highlights that achievement milestones are diverse, catering to various gaming platforms and play styles.
