Los Angeles: Exciting news has surfaced regarding acclaimed director Christopher Nolan’s upcoming blockbuster project with Universal Pictures.
As announced in a recent post on X by Universal Pictures, Nolan’s latest endeavor is described as “a mythic action epic filmed around the globe utilizing cutting-edge IMAX film technology.” This adaptation of Homer’s timeless epic will debut in IMAX theaters for the first time on July 17, 2026, according to ‘Variety’.
Nolan has gathered an impressive cast to bring this monumental story to life, with stars including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, and Charlize Theron.
According to ‘Variety’, production for this ambitious film is expected to commence in the first half of 2025, marking a continuation of the successful collaboration between Nolan and the studio following their critically acclaimed film ‘Oppenheimer.’ Nolan will write and produce alongside Emma Thomas under their production company, Syncopy.
Homer’s ‘The Odyssey’ is regarded as one of the oldest literary works still enjoyed by contemporary readers, detailing the epic journey of the Greek hero Odysseus as he strives to return home after the Trojan War.
This classic tale has inspired several adaptations over the years, beginning with a silent film by Giuseppe de Liguoro in 1911, followed by the 1954 feature ‘Ulysses’ starring Kirk Douglas. The 2000 film ‘O Brother, Where Art Thou?’ also draws loosely from this epic, with 2024’s ‘The Return’ featuring Ralph Fiennes adapting the concluding sections of the poem.
Last week, Holland shared his excitement about joining the project, albeit with limited knowledge about its details. “To be honest, I don’t really know much about the plot,” he confessed on ‘The Dish’ podcast. “I’m incredibly excited, but it’s been relatively quiet regarding the project. I did have a meeting with Nolan, which was fantastic.”
