Google appears to be testing the display of top stories within the AI Overview section of search results. This feature was announced last month, and it now seems to be gradually rolling out to certain users.
Lily Ray was among the first to notice this change and shared her observations. I managed to replicate this in one of my browser sessions, though it wasn’t consistent across all attempts.
The screenshots show a Top Stories carousel featuring content from outlets like The New York Times and Yahoo. While I didn’t observe specific preferred sources in my experience, they may appear if relevant content from your specified sources matches your query.
Back in May, Google explained that for certain searches related to developing topics, a prominent carousel will appear. This carousel will highlight preferred sources to help make timely articles more accessible across a variety of search questions.
Discussions around this update are ongoing across various forums.
