As chatbots become increasingly sophisticated, companies are developing memory capabilities that allow them to retain previous interactions. The latest addition to this trend is Google’s Gemini, which can remember what you’ve typed in past conversations, but there’s a bit of a catch.
Google Gemini Advanced Subscribers Can Now Access the New Memory Feature
According to a recent blog post on The Keyword, Gemini is introducing an advanced memory feature. Traditionally, if you wanted to revisit something you talked about with a chatbot, you had to either comb through your entire chat history or manually remind it of the conversation.
Now, you won’t have to worry about either of those tasks. Simply open Gemini and ask it to recall a prior conversation. The assistant will sift through your chat history and retrieve everything relevant to that topic, allowing you to build upon previous discussions and reference them later.
Unfortunately, this new memory feature won’t be available to everyone. You’ll need to be a Gemini Advanced subscriber within the Google One AI Premium Plan to access it. This feature is available on both web and mobile platforms for subscribers.
Google Gears Up Gemini to Compete with AI Rivals
With numerous chatbots competing for prominence, Google’s latest update aligns with industry trends. We’ve reached a point where major tech players can deliver impressive results with their chatbots. The focus has now shifted to adding innovative features to gain a competitive edge.
Memory in AI is not entirely new; for instance, ChatGPT has a memory capability that allows users to specify important information about themselves. However, Google’s approach seems less about remembering personal details and more about facilitating easier recall of past conversations. It will be interesting to see how this feature performs compared to rivals once users have had a chance to test it.
